Situation

We embarked on an exciting new construction project for the new Headquarters and Distribution Centre of CareCo, an independent distributor of care mobility products. With the site being situated in Braintree, Essex, Rose Builders Ltd approached us for a complete package, from design to reality. They were looking for a solution that aligned with their client’s company branding and stayed within their budget and timeframes whilst also being safety compliant.

Tasks & Actions

The client had a precise vision in mind from the start and provided us with well-defined drawings initially. They envisioned a balustrade solution which surrounded the main atrium and mirrored the building’s distinct interior flair. There was also a requirement to integrate our designs with the new steel staircase structure installed by a specialist staircase provider.

After reviewing drawings and carrying out surveys, we installed the balustrade which consisted of a 21.5mm structural laminate glass balustrade solution framed with an aluminium top capping profile. The choice of a matte black powder-coated finish tied in seamlessly with the new building as well as CareCo’s branding ethos.

The 80 linear metres of structural glass balustrade around the atrium was connected to the structural steels, with a U-profile aluminum channel able to withstand a linear line load of 1.5kN, providing a strong secure fix. In some areas, we needed to create bespoke fixing brackets to raise the channel and align with the floor finishes and these were incorporated seamlessly into the final design.

Results

Staying true to our commitment, we completed the project on time and within the budget. A journey that began with an initial quote in June 2021 culminated in a successful delivery by May 2022, rounding off a year of meticulous execution.

The success of this endeavor hasn’t just been in the delivery, but in the lasting relationships it has fostered. Our quality, dedication, and service levels on this project have resulted in further discussions with the client on other projects. Additionally, it reassured the contractor of our ability to deliver quality solutions and opened up future inquiries and opportunities.
